i’m a winner!

yes, i am a winner. the last time i won anything was in highschool. i was the tenth caller to a commercial radio station and won a whitesnake cd at a time when compact discs were new and unusual. (i’m not even sure why i was listening to commercial radio back in the day. i thought i was an alt-rocker…a very interesting realization.) i felt very cool when i cut it up and used it in an art project. a few years later, i won on a college radio station when i successfully identified morrissey’s first name. if only i could remember what i won.

on saturday i cheerfully accepted several prizes (that i still need to photograph) for bringing the winning wine to a sauvignon blanc tasting party at alex and cati’s. you can read all about it here and here. it was a beautiful day for drinking, eating and socializing. it was an honor to be in the presence of so many seasoned excel users.

i’m not really sure skfl and i deserved to win the beautiful plaque that proudly hangs in our kitchen. i was nervous about buying the right wine for this event and of course put it off until the last minute. we were out for our morning walk to the farmer’s market and made a quick stop at the neighborhood liquor store. we were tired, hot and thirsty. so i ran in while skfl waited patiently with mae outside. i explained my situation and the nice guy suggested a 15 dollar bottle (we had to bring two bottles of the same wine under 15 bucks) and then also suggested another delicious bottle for 11 bucks (i thought i paid 12 and reported it as such to the wine tabulators…i hope i get invited back). i was in the store for less than two minutes. i did no research about sauvignon blanc (although literature was provided in advance). skfl is not even a fan of white wine (although i’m pretty sure he converted after saturday).

i think we sampled 20 different wines that day and it was great. we learned so much! i was putting off writing about this so that i could post a photo of me giving the liquor store guy a thumbs up with the plaque. i don’t think he is working again until the weekend. luckily (and conveniently) i live seconds away from the place.

hooray for wine!

  • What!? you reported the wrong price/bottle? I am going to have to reassemble the Excel council and retabulate everything! Awards will have to be returned, we will have to retry all the wines (unfortunatley, from the spit-buckets). Ha, I kid…you still win. I am in Bergen, Norway now getting adive on how to organize a fish-pudding tasting party. Expect an invite soon! Congrats on schooling everyone with your Sauvignon Blanc.
